Free weekly virtual “Yoga for Rowers”

CHaOS offers a free virtual “Yoga for Rowers” class every Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 PM (USA Eastern time).

Enjoy a specialized yoga class addressing rowers’ needs in the privacy of your home - and become part of a committed and fun group with rowers and non-rowers from Texas to Canada .

The class is open to everybody (including significant others).

All you have to do to join (for free) is send an e-mail to row@chaosrowing.org.

Who should participate?

Rowers who aim for

  • better compression and longer reach at the catch (ankle mobility)

  • relaxed shoulders and grip through the drive (upper body strength and isolation of the lats vs. traps)

  • a perfectly set boat at the finish (core muscles)

  • a fluid beginning of the the recovery after a perfect rock-over (pelvic tilt)

  • better set in choppy conditions (sideways hip mobility and balance)

According to a study of British Rowing, the biggest limiting factor that prevents masters rowers from being fast is a lack of flexibility, mobility, and core strength.

How can it be “free”?

We want the class to be open to everybody and really inclusive.

So rather than charging per class or month, we chose an NPR-tpe of funding where we relay on finding day sponsors for a particular class.

Day sponsorships are available for $125 per class and come with a BIG THANK YOU from all the participants of that evening’s class.

Who teaches the class?

Laura Terry – physiotherapist and yoga teacher designs the classes to address the specific shortness, stiffness, and body parts that limit our success as masters rowers.

A Physical Therapist since 1998, Laura Terry has practiced in many different settings. Her clients have goals that range from returning to athletic performance, improving balance, to relieving debilitating pain.

In 2008, Laura became a yoga instructor in order to share this benefit with others and to integrate it into her Physical Therapy practice. She has specialized training and experience in yoga for athletes, yoga for seniors, yoga for breast cancer survivors, and yoga for chronic pain. Laura has her own Physical Therapy practice in Chapel Hill: https://www.yogaandpt.com

Laura earned her undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Science from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1995 and her Masters in Physical Therapy at East Carolina University in 1998. She is the only certified practitioner of Lee Albert’s Integrated Positional Therapy (a gentle and effective manual therapy technique for neuromuscular pain) south of New York."
